What is so Romantic About Romance Languages?

When you think about romance languages you think about a whirlwind affair with a foreign gentleman. After all, in the movie Mona Lisa Smile starring Julia Roberts cooed into the ear of her lover, who just so happened to be an Italian professor, that she loved hearing old war stories in romance languages. So, what is it about these romance languages that drive women wild? With fall coming, it’s the perfect time for long walks, and hot chocolate in front of the fire with the person you love. We can look at these languages and discover what all the fuss is about.

What Are the Four Romance Languages

Spanish

Spanish is one of the most popular languages to learn. It’s also on the top of the romance language list because of its obvious sensuality and passion. Its origin lies in the Latin language, and it consists of longer vowels and soft consonants. Spanish is found in a lot of music and poetry because it’s easier to rhyme the Spanish language due to verb conjugations.

Over 420 million people all over the world speak Spanish; it’s a very popular language. Over 44 countries have adopted the language and its popularity only grows.

French

It’s no surprise that French is considered to be one of the most romantic languages in the world. After all, Paris is considered to be the city of love, lost and found! Many people love the way the French language rolls off the tongue. It also has origins in Latin and is a comfortable language that flows easily. It requires verb conjugations just like the Spanish language, so it is ideal for writing music or poetry. French is well known for the flowery, lovely lyrics it possesses.

French is considered to be an official language in over 29 countries. It’s one of the most popular languages spoken today. It’s a unique language with charming dialects and accents.

Italian

“That’s Amore!” Italians love being in love, so it’s no surprise that a language that has lilting words is a romance language. It was rated as the world’s most romantic language. Also originating from Latin, Italian has a true kinship with the beautiful words of an opera, or a written poetry or prose. The lilting sound of the Italian language comes from the pulsing distribution of vowels and consonants. Many people think that the language sounds like singing.

Portuguese

Portuguese is considered to be a sexy Latin-based language; possibly due to it’s drawn out vowels. You can find the Portuguese language in a Samba or Bossa Nova. The expressive intonations are perfect for music. Portugal has a very exotic culture and some pretty wonderful music, so it’s no surprise that it’s considered to be a sexy language.
